Having the right tool in the kitchen definitely makes food preparation and healthy eating easier and more fun! Here are my top five essential tools for holistic food preparation:
Dutch Oven (Enamel coated Cast Iron pot)
Silicon Muffin Tray
I have good reasons for recommending the items listed above, as they truly are my most used tools, enabling me to create freely, efficiently and beautifully.
Food Processor– from shredding to grinding, nut flours to nut butters, this is a must have for versatility and efficiency in food preparation. Whether you’re prepping, cooking, baking, canning and preserving, having a food processor is not only essential but a real time saver!
I love the Cuisineart 12 cup Food Processor.
Vegetable Peeler– A great vegetable peeler which removes skin with ease is a must have if you plan on eating healthy. No matter what diet you may be on, fruits and vegetable are alkalinizing, anti-inflammatory, cleansing and full of micro-nutrients. You cannot thrive without consuming them. A good peeler makes prepping fruit and veggies a breeze!
The OXO vegetable peeler is the only one I use- it’s fantastic!
Blender– A good blender creates wonderful juices, smoothies and soups, and I think most will agree that this is simply a must have!
I love the Vitamix and find it so versatile!
Dutch oven– Why is a Dutch Oven a blessing in the kitchen? There are so many things I use my Dutch oven for- from making soups, to roasting and veggie loaded comforting dishes like Dahl, to spreads and chutneys. The magic of the Dutch oven lies in the fact that it’s non-stick with an outer enamel coating and cast-iron, which heats up well and retains the heat cooking food beautifully. It’s great both on the stovetop, as well as in the oven with its lid on. If it’s a dish that would take hours to sauté on the stove top, like ,my red pepper spread or chutney, I usually start on the stove top and place it in the oven until it heats up. I then leave it to cook with residual heat- such a hassle free method which always produces perfect results.
Cusineart has an affordable 3 and 4 quart dutch oven which works perfectly!
Silicon Muffin tray– lastly, and more humbly, a muffin tray is no extravagant tool, but it sure does get a lot of use in my house. Whether I’m making muffins, egg cups, molten lava cakes or cashew cheezecakes, the beauty of these trays is that they are truly non-stick and everything comes out clean and easy without any additional flour or oils. It’s a pleasure using it to cook when you know that the clean-up is a simple soapy water rinse with a product that’s always a success!
Wilton is the brand I’ve used most and love it!
Hope you enjoy these tips! Let me know what tools you find ideal or if you’ve tried the ones on my list!
